OXO Tower (London, England)

imageMy favorite restaurant in London!  It’s south of the Thames River the OXO Tower serves up excellent cuisine and wonder views of the city and the West end.

From the bar, terrace and sometimes your table you can see Buckingham Palace, Parliament, St. Paul’s cathedral and the City.  There is a brassier section but I have only eaten in the Restaurant

It’s a creative blend of European and British Modern cuisine and I’m never disappointed – you can expect traditional dishes with an innovative twist like:  blueberry mousse and iced earl grey tea.

The restaurant is an elegant dining experience in an art-deco decorative ambiance, making it pleasantly informal.  The wine list is impressive, with of over 800 wines from around the world the wait staff are professional and knowledgeable.

I recommend this great little gem to anyone living or passing through London!

Dans Le Noir – London

image

I was reminded today about a fun restaurant in London that I wanted to share with you.  I have been there several times but most recently I was there with our software development team to learn more about accessibility!

This restaurant provides an unbelievable experience: eating in the pitch darkness. For sighted people it is a little strange but this restaurant provide an experience that everyone can enjoy.

With the help of blinded guides you will completely re-evaluate your notions of taste and smell.

News Cafe (Ocean Drive, Miami Beach)

imageI can only think of one thing better than breakfast on the beach, breakfast at News Cafe.  People watching opportunities are included for free!

Its on Ocean Drive  at 8th Street, in Miami Beach, this restaurant is directly across from the ocean.  Open 24hours, News Cafe is a bar, a cafe and a newsstand with a menu large enough to satisfy everyone.  Breakfast ranges from yogurt to pastries, pancakes and fresh juices.  Stay long enough and have a traditional burger and fries for lunch while enjoying the sea breeze .

Opened in 1988 as a bookstore and newsstand where local jazz musicians played and intellectuals gathered, this quaint restaurant oozes with history and vibrancy.  There’s no better way to start the day!

World Resources Cafe (Lincoln Road, Miami Beach)

image For fresh Thai and Japanese cuisine  I highly recommend World Resources

On the busy Lincoln Road “walking mall” World Resources is an oasis of great fresh sushi, hand rolls, assortments of traditional Japanese delicacies and Thai dishes like Thai Curry, Crispy Duck salad and other House Favorites.

My favorite part, people watching!  Eat outside and enjoy the sun, the shade or, as the restaurant likes to say, "sushi under the stars."

Hosteria Romana (Ocean Drive, Miami Beach)

imageHosteria Romana, on Ocean Drive (between 12th and 13th Street) is my favorite Italian restaurant on Miami South Beach.

Everyone loves Italian food but when combined with lively wait staff, cocktails, fantastic food, Ocean Drive’s people watching opportunities, and a beautiful evening you can’t go wrong. The meet is tender, the seafood is fresh and the flavors are bold  It’s one of those family friendly restaurants that always surprises me.

Ask for a table on the sidewalk or on the terrace over looking Ocean Drive to enjoy the ambience of Ocean Drive whilst you eat. And if you enjoy cocktails try their Mojitos as they are an experience to enjoy!

Texas de Brazil (Miami Beach)

imageAre you a hungry carnivore on Miami Beach? I have just the place for you – Texas de Brazil.

Texas de Brazil is a Brazilian style steakhouse. Its an excellent place for a Caipirinha, the Brazilian version of a mojito, made with cachaça (rum made with sugar cane) and obviously steaks.  Now when I say steaks I mean rotisserie-roasted meats, and lots of them, coming around from table to table.  And for vegetarians (or amateur carnivores) there is an extensive salad bar with traditional Brazilian concoctions like hearts of palms salad, feijoada (Brazilian Beans and Rice) and faropha (toasted manioc flour)

It’s fun, lively, and very Brazilian. Go there with friends and go there hungry!

Rick’s Café Casablanca

image Rick’s Café was designed to recreate the bar made famous by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the movie classic Casablanca. And they did well.  IMG_0107

Set in an old 30’s courtyard-style grand-mansion the restaurant is filled with the decorative details reminiscent of the film: curved arches, a sculpted bar, balconies, balustrades as well as brass lighting and plants that cast luminous shadows on white walls. The food is a wonderful mix of international-French and Moroccan.

image Rick’s Café Casablanca was developed by an America Diplomat Kathy Kriger who presumably needed something “authentic Casablancan” to entertain visiting dignitaries.

Although this restaurant had nothing to do with the movie it is a “must do” for dinner when in Casablanca.
